THE CULTURAL DATA FARM

A living system where Black economic data is cultivated in community.

FARM RULES

Domains are intentionally designed problem spaces where strategy, intelligence design, and governance are set before any tools or outputs exist.

The historical, cultural, and economic conditions that shape growth.

Data is the raw input — lived experience, corporate behavior, and economic signals — that fuels growth within the ecosystem.

Networks are the sources and relationships that enable data to enter the ecosystem. Roots connect the ecosystem to reality.

Channels are the structured pathways that move data through a domain and transform it into intelligence.

Outputs are the visible expressions of intelligence produced by the ecosystem.

Signals are patterns and implications surfaced from data — revealing direction, risk, momentum, and meaning before outcomes fully materialize.

Glow represents activation — the moment data moves from insight into action.

the system

The Cultural Data Farm is a systematic approach to growing datasets about Black economic behavior that institutions don’t collect — then mining those datasets to expose trends, gaps, and opportunities for impact.

It’s a living data ecosystem where Black economic and corporate realities are cultivated through participation, stewardship, and responsible use.

Individual signals — consumer experiences, corporate disclosures, economic conditions — are planted as inputs. When aggregated and structured, they grow into insight: patterns that reveal how systems operate, where value flows, and where inequities persist. This ecosystem exists to ensure Black-centered data is not fragmented, gated, or extractive, but transformed into knowledge that can be acted on.

the stewards

NONPROFIT | Black Dollar Initiative

The Black Dollar Initiative is the research and public benefit steward of the ecosystem.

We collect, analyze, and maintain Black-centered corporate and economic data to support research, education, policy insight, and public accountability. Our role is to ensure foundational data — particularly corporate data — is accurate, transparent, and available for responsible use across sectors.

FOR PROFIT | black dollar index

The Black Dollar Index is the consumer-facing application layer of the ecosystem.

Through advocacy-driven tools, we empower individuals to make informed financial and civic decisions while generating anonymized insights that help organizations understand how economic systems affect real people. These tools sustain the platform and translate research into action.

stewardship principles

  • All consumer data in the ecosystem is anonymized.
  • Consumer data governance is determined by consent, purpose, and stewardship.
  • Consumer data is exchanged for utility, not just donated.
  • Consumer tool data remains proprietary to the Black Dollar Index.
  • Corporate research data is stewarded by the Black Dollar Initiative.
  • Public benefit research is not monetized as consumer intelligence.
  • Data is not sold or licensed for predatory or discriminatory use.
  • Corporate access requires responsible, mission-aligned application.
  • Public benefit and commercial use are intentionally distinct.
  • Stewardship prioritizes community trust over short-term value.

explore the ecosystem

The Cultural Data Farm is a living ecosystem where Black-centered data is cultivated, not mined. Through intentional domains, shared research, and consumer tools, individual signals become collective insight — powering accountability, informed decisions, and real-world outcomes.
